Empowering Future Innovators: UAC Foods' STEM Program

Investing in the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators begins with access to quality education. That’s why we launched the STEM Program at Ojota Secondary School, a key Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative focused on promoting STEM education among secondary school students in Nigeria.

The program is designed to support students transitioning from Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) to Senior Secondary School 1 (SS1), offering early exposure to core subjects including Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science. By building a strong academic foundation at this critical stage, the program helps students gain confidence and prepares them for success in senior secondary school and beyond.

Over a four-week period in August, 12 passionate tutors, including UAC Foods’ MD/CEO Oluyemi Oloyede, led engaging classroom sessions and mentorship discussions. Student participation grew steadily from 60 in the first week to 65 by week three, highlighting the enthusiasm and commitment of the learners. The curriculum was designed to be interactive, with practical demonstrations and real-world applications that brought STEM concepts to life.

To further reinforce learning and encourage excellence, 60 students participated in an internal assessment in the third week. The top six performers advanced to a STEM quiz competition, where they showcased their knowledge and competed in a fun and competitive environment. To celebrate their achievements, UAC Foods awarded ₦400,000 in cash prizes, a gesture that brought joy to students, pride to parents, and motivation to teachers.

Beyond academics, the program also focused on student well-being. Refreshments were provided during breaks, creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that made the learning experience even more enjoyable. The impact was evident as students walked away more confident, parents expressed deep appreciation, and teachers applauded the growth they witnessed in their classrooms.

This initiative reflects UAC Foods’ broader commitment to youth empowerment and community development through education. By bridging gaps in STEM education and nurturing young talent, the company is helping to shape a future fueled by innovation, resilience, and opportunity.

CSR in education is more than a responsibility; it is a long-term investment in national progress. The STEM Program at Ojota Secondary School stands as a shining example of how business and community goals can align to create lasting impact.

Together, let’s continue to open doors, nurture potential, and inspire the future, one student at a time.
